Praha - day one ... WOO HOO!!

So, I slept in (way in - 12m to 12n, but clearly I needed it!) and then took my time getting out and about. Wrote part 1 of my Paris blog, broke my fast, showered, dressed with much care (it was my FIRST intro to Prague!!), and headed out the door.

I was describing the day to one of my oldest friends (shout out to SRM!), and the best way was to say I was on image overload ... a kid in a candy store ... I didn't know what to look at first ... I gawked ... I gaped ... I was awed, amused, moved, and even saddened (yes, a TGIF restaurant in Prague made my just about burst into tears - - even more so than the half dozen KFC's that I saw). What a day!

Please ... feel free to browse ...

St. Ludmila's in Miru Square ... a stones throw from my flat. What a way to START my day!!

The altar inside St. Ludmila's ... the stained glass is just AWESOME!

A close-up of Nardoni (National) Museum ... what a shot!

Wide shot of Nardoni Museum ... this looked so much like a gov't building that the communists fired upon it when they invaded in 1968 - apparently you can still see the marks.

I love these double bridges between buildings!

I love the colored images above the windows here.

I don't know WHAT this building is ... but it is AWESOME ... black and imposing, felt like some cool Tower of London jail or something.

Can you see why I thought it was imposing and freakin' great?!?!? I want to LIVE here! I mean inside of it! I know ... I've said that quite a few times in my Picasa album captions ... but this one really takes the cake! And I f*ckin' LOVE cake!!!

Just do damn cool!

This is a close-up of the entrance to the large ornate building that is attached to the cool black Tower of London thing by the awesome little bridge.

Ooooooo kkkkkkk ...

So, had a forced break in there ... I blew a fuse because I plugged my hairdryer in (I know Colleen, can you believe it?!) ... and lost all power until now (7p). So, back to my day yesterday - and then later tonight (as I am going back out for dinner and nighttime exploration.

From there I walked home, in the pouring rain (well, on and off as apparently it goes here - with thunder too) after running back to the Palladium and buying a sweater and umbrella. I saw more cool stuff (surprise!) on the way home too. Check it out ...

For all my dog loving/owning peeps ... too funny, right?!?

I love the statues here ... they are blindfolded ... and with the flowers in the back, just lovely.

The Opera House.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, concludes our tour of Prague for the day. Tune in tomorrow (or later tonight really!) for Day 2 ... my orientation at school, and fun with power!

Here is a link to the day's photos on my Picasa page ... Ami's 1st Pics of Praha

  1. (on your blog writing: you are doing a fine job of describing what you are seeing and feeling with good, appropriate detail...! keep it up.)

what a wonderful metaphor--you coming in from the rain to the protection and shelter of your aa meeting!

the architecture over there IS eye candy...constructed with embellishments and details that very few of our public buildings possess.

i eagerly await the next installment!

  2. suggestions for inexpensive decor to make your prague flat yours and more homey:

hang sheets of gift wrap paper up as art (there are sure to be some fine examples of prague art).

    fresh flowers, of course.

use empty food (or whatever) containers as vases, and holders for cosmetics, pencils, etc.

kitchen textiles can cover a pillow or drape a window or bath towel rack.

that's it...just thinking of you in your neat little flat!

Can't wait to see and hear more. Just a few days and I'll be there too! Can't wait for you to show me your temp home!!
